Starting on February 1, 2025, the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) will implement important changes to the Labourer Card requirements. This aligns with the provisions of the Building Safety Act. These changes are designed to ensure all workers in construction roles demonstrate the appropriate skills, knowledge, and behaviour required to carry out their duties safely and effectively.
Initial Card Validity: The Labourer Card, which was previously valid for five years, will now only be valid for two years upon issuance.
Renewal Process: After the two-year period, workers will be eligible to renew their card for an additional five years. However, to do so, workers must provide evidence of continuous employment in a labouring role during this period.
This update emphasises the commitment to improving safety and competency across the construction industry. The Building Safety Act mandates that all individuals in construction roles demonstrate the appropriate skills, knowledge, experience, and behaviour required for their positions. These changes will help ensure that workers maintain and develop the competencies necessary for their roles in a fast-evolving industry.
