Ensuring Competence and Compliance at Van Elle Training Centre

At Van Elle Training Centre, we believe that everyone deserves to go home safely at the end of the day. That principle underpins everything we do.

Our mission is to ensure that all individuals and ourselves are competent, compliant, and fully equipped to work safely and effectively.

Purpose-Built Training for Excellence

Our purpose-built training centre and facilities were originally designed to train our piling staff. However, we now use a broad range of plant and equipment to offer high-quality training for all industry professionals.

With an expert internal team and some of the best subcontractors in the industry, we deliver outstanding training that meets the highest standards.

As an accredited centre for CPCS, NPORS, and Street works training, Van Elle Training Centre operates under the rigorous standards of awarding bodies such as SQA and NOCN.

These accreditations enable us to provide industry-recognised certifications, ensuring that all our trainees meet national competency and compliance standards.

The Role of Mark, Our IQA (Internal Quality Assurance)

Quality training is at the heart of everything we do, and this is where our Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) processes, led by Mark, play a crucial role.

Mark ensures that the centre operates legally and efficiently in line with awarding body quality assurance requirements.

His responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that all assessors and trainers are qualified, competent, and up to date with industry standards.
  • Overseeing training quality to maintain compliance with Department for Education Standards and Criteria.
  • Ensuring that all training delivered meets the stringent criteria set by awarding bodies.

Having a dedicated IQA is a fundamental requirement for all training providers, ensuring that staff have the qualifications and resources they need to provide top-tier training.

IQA Requirements

An Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of assessment processes within education and training. They ensure that assessments align with national frameworks and awarding body requirements, guaranteeing fairness, reliability, and consistency. By monitoring assessment quality, providing guidance to assessors, and leading standardisation activities, IQAs help maintain high standards across educational programs. They also handle appeals and complaints, ensuring that concerns are addressed fairly and transparently.

Beyond compliance, our IQA, Mark, drives continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and refining assessment practices. Through effective communication and documentation, they support assessors and learners alike, fostering a high-quality learning environment. Their work ultimately ensures that assessments are robust, equitable, and aligned with best practices, enhancing both teaching and learning outcomes.

Trainer Competency Requirements

To deliver high-quality training at Van Elle, all trainers must hold the following qualifications:

  • Teaching qualification
  • Assessor qualification
  • Instructional techniques training
  • Safety qualification relevant to the plant industry
  • 3-day first aid certification
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
  • Safeguarding and Prevent training (Counter-terrorism awareness to help prevent learners from being drawn into extremism. While Prevent focuses on long-term learning through ongoing engagement and relationship-building with learners, it remains relevant in both short and long-duration training, including plant training.)

These stringent requirements ensure that our trainers are not only highly skilled but also fully compliant with industry and government guidance.
