Meet Ellie-May: A Valued Supervisor at Van Elle

You’ve met our trainers and operatives, so now it’s time we introduce you to the lovely centre staff that keep the day to day running smoothly. Meet Ellie-May, our training supervisor! Ellie-May joined the training team back in 2022, as a Training Coordinator before making her way to Training Supervisor beginning of 2024.

Can you tell us about your role as a Training Supervisor and what a typical day looks like?

As Training Supervisor, Ellie-May oversees the team, manages the trainers’ diaries, and helps with both internal and external course coordination. Ellie-May’s responsibilities revolve around setting dates, scheduling courses, and organising the necessary plant equipment for each session.

Additionally, she manages the co-ordination for rail projects and oversees all rail competencies. Every day is focused on ensuring that everything runs smoothly and efficiently across the board.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into construction training?

After studying in college, Ellie-May joined the beauty industry for three years where she worked in a salon, before realising that wasn’t the route she hoped to take.

After deciding to change paths, she worked in finance for another training company when a friend’s recommendation rose the opportunity to join Van Elle, and we have to say – it’s been a great fit ever since.

What is your favourite aspect of your role?

Ellie-May stated, “My favourite aspect of the role is knowing that I’m helping people stay in work and achieve their career goals”. She continued to state, “It’s incredibly rewarding to see participants earn certifications they can use to progress in their careers”.

Like most of the team, Ellie-May finds working with the Nottingham Skills Collaboration is also a highlight, as it’s fulfilling to be part of a program that has a real impact on people’s professional development.

What has been one of your most rewarding experiences in this role?

For Ellie-May, one of the most rewarding experiences has been watching the team progress into new roles and grow within the company. Her own promotion to supervisor was a significant milestone, as it showed the trust placed in Ellie-May to lead and manage a team.

Ellie-May finds it incredibly fulfilling when successful trainees come back and express their appreciation for the team’s support in helping them achieve their goals.

What is your favourite thing about working at Van Elle?

One of Ellie-May’s favourite things about working at Van Elle is the incredible team. She candidly expressed the team as being part of a close-knit family. Ellie-May loves opportunity to see different sides of the construction industry and learn something new every day. The support from everyone at Van Elle is amazing and really makes the workplace feel comforting and welcoming.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Ellie-May recently bought a house so is super busy moving in with her partner. Around the house move, Ellie-May loves spending time with friends and family and taking her dogs Lola and Lily, for walks.

Ellie-May’s dedication, enthusiasm, and passion for her role make her a valued member of the team, well done Ellie-May on your continuous achievements.
